When I was in college I used to laugh at my uncle. Whenever my aunt went out of town my uncle would call me up and ask me to come over and help him with some hair-brained scheme that had to be done before my aunt got home. Now that Danna's out for a couple of weeks I've come to the conclusion that I'm that guy.
A few months ago Danna left me for the weekend and I rewired all the house network, phone and cable wiring. That was a marathon job that took me the entire weekend, sans sleep. Well, now that Danna's off to Italy for a couple of weeks I can get in really big trouble.
My first "project" was the complete dismantling of our media room. We're going to be doing some remodeling up there, so this is something that needed to be done. But, it doesn't really have to be done for a while yet. I couldn't resist. I worked until about 2:00 in the morning and finally got the thing all broken down. Man, talk about a lot of wiring. I forgot how much stuff it takes to have a good movie sound system. Of course, the remnants of the media room have been "integrated" into the rest of the house: the rear surround speakers, processor, an amp and a CD player are now in the living room. The Tivo has been lovingly plugged into the bedroom TV (with a nice telephone cord stretching along the carpet). I'm sure as the week progresses I will find more uses for my newly boxed bits (I'm pretty sure the stereo cabinet could make a really nice server rack, but I'm ashamed to use such an expensive rack on some not-so-expensive servers).
My next project is the garage. I'm putting an epoxy floor down in the garage. Every night I go home and do a little more work. Last night was the cleaning phase and I can no longer park cars in the garage. Luckily, I have a "temporary" garage here at work. Tonight is the actual epoxy process, which I've got to get right because it takes a week to cure and Danna gets back next Tuesday. Not cutting it close or anything, am I?
Ug, I've turned into my uncle.
