One bathroom and a partially finished basement. It was only a matter of time. This year we decided it was time to do some remodeling on the house. By "some remodeling" I mean a whole lot of remodeling.

Current House

The current house is a 1960's mid-century modern that we love. We just want it bigger. Here's what it looks like now:

Demo

The house had a fair amount of asbestos in it so when it was time to start demolition they wasted no time. After the first day the kitchen and bathroom were both gone. Demo was complete in about a week.

Framing

We're now into framing, and we're almost complete. The second story is framed and the roof is on. That's great, because we already had two inches of hail in the house while the roof was off.

Drywall & Insulation

All the windows are now in. Wiring and plumbing are done. They've insulated and now they're starting to hang drywall. It's coming along nicely.

Drywall Mudding and Exterior Work

They've started tapingn and mudding the drywall. Also, the exterior brick is now painted and they've started adding the Hardiplank to the exterior. When you walk through you can get a good feel for how the house will feel now.

Drywall work is coming along.

Kitchen

New Stairwell

There is a nice window at the top of the stairs that offers a ton of light.

Boy Closet

That bit of wiring at the top is for a small air-conditioning unit. There is a compressor on the roof that drives this and another one in the master bedroom to keep the upstairs cool.

Boy's Room

Cole has a nice big window to look out of.

Master

The master is small -- we exchanged real-estate here for extra closet space. But the two floor to ceiling windows give it a lot of light.

Garage

The garage drywall is done too.

Garage Doors

We new garage doors and openers now. The doors will be painted the same color as the brick.

Cabinets and Flooring

They've laid the flooring and have started to install cabinets. The cabinets all have soft closures throughout the house and the wood grain was skinned from an entire tree so everything blends and matches.

Filling in the Blanks

We're almost done! Interior work is moving along nicely and they've started on the outside deck. Exterior painting is all done. They've started on the low voltage wiring. It's starting to look really good.

Front

The front is fully painted. The garage doors even work now and have new openers.

The front walkway has a series of boards across the top that let in light, but make it more interesting.

We wanted a fun color for the door. Above is a nice effect done with cedar.

Applicances

Hey, the refrigerator is even making ice.

Kitchen Cabinets

The kitchen is almost done. The cabinet veneer is cool: it's a single tree that they "peeled". Not only does the grain match vertically, but it matches horizontally all around the kitchen.
